Visitor Visas
A visitor is:
- a person who wants to come to Canada to work, study or visit
- A visitor is not a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
Temporary Resident Visa (TRV):
- is a document issued by a Canadian Immigration Visa Office outside Canada
- shows that the holder has satisfied the requirements for admission to Canada as a visitor
- may be for single entry or multiple entry
As a general rule, tourists are admitted for a period of six months.
Temporary foreign workers and international students are admitted for varying periods of time, as determined on a case-by-case basis.
Extensions may be applied for from within Canada.
Every visitor, unless exempted, must obtain a visa before arriving.
All visitors who require a visa must have the visa when they appear at a port of entry.
Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA):
- All air travellers from visa exempt countries require an ETA before they board a flight.
- This includes those who are transiting through Canada.
- It only includes travellers arriving by air
